You can learn how to style your next outfit better in five simple ways to help you achieve an elevated look. If you are looking for outfit inspiration, elevating what you already have in your closet, or more accessible ways to look polished, this is for you!
In today’s blog post, I will share a few tips on how to transform a simple outfit with:
- Organize Your Closet
- Planning Your Outfit Ahead of Time
- Colour Combo
- Balance Your Outfit to Your Body Shape
- Accessorize to Compliment Your Outfit
Organizing Your Closet
To start styling better, it begins with what is in your closet. Hear me out, sis. When was the last time you cleaned out your closet? What is actually in your wardrobe right now? If one of these applies, consider a spring cleaning in your closet, become familiar with all your clothing staples, and possibly donate ones that no longer serve you.
Once you know what you have and don’t have, it will be easier to put an outfit together. Your closet will be organized, and you can now buy things that go with what you already have and stop buying similar or similar things.
Planning Your Outfit Ahead of Time
Putting together your next outfit ahead of time makes a difference. This applies not just to the workplace but also to your next event. I have done this for some time, and it goes much smoother because of the time to curate it well. Over time, you will have it down to a T, and all your outfits will be put together seamlessly with less time and effortless style.
Colour Combo
Have you heard of the three-color combo before? I did not know it was a thing, but it is used often in fashion rules. Go figure! I prefer color coordination, but this is my personal preference.
I had this down before I knew about it, so for those who know about it, it helps you finalize your pieces, such as the coat, shoes, handbag, and accessories.
Here’s an additional tidbit: if you have two shades of blue and two additional colors, you are still within the three-color rule. Here are two examples of Spring looks this season and elevating your next outfit.
Balance Your Outfit to Your Body Shape
Let me explain what I am sharing here; all women’s bodies are badass, and what I have learned with my body shape ( petite 5 ft and curvy) is that I need to know what fits me well and when to lighten the fluff that can come from certain types of clothing and material, no matter how much I love a particular print or fabric.
For example, when I wear a flowy skirt, not form-fitting on the bottom, I choose a fitted blouse for that balance.
This is a personal preference, and please take this with a grain of salt. You will determine what is figure-friendly for you and what you feel most comfortable in; feeling confident in what you wear is just as important.
Accessorize to Compliment Your Outfit
Accessories have a big part in taking your outfit to the next level. Adding a few accessories is a simple but polished way to transform your outfits for the next season.
Many options exist, from silver to gold-plated jewelry. I prefer to wear gold jewelry and mix and match it with gold-plated and silver jewelry, too.
Find what you prefer, silver or gold or other materials, considering what compliments your skin. Consider small or large hoops, a few bangles, a pendant necklace, shades in neutral or bold colors, and a fun handbag for Spring and Summer. Have some fun with deciding your next accessory purchase.
